Prescriptions drugs in the water.

You’ve probably already seen the headlines about prescription drugs in drinking water, if not here’s a link to azcentral.com. I imagine this may drive more people to bottled water who may not realize it’s usually just tap water. I’d be curious to know if the R/O or whatever extra filtering they do reduces the amount of drugs? Somehow I doubt it, but if you know send the info over.

Here’s a prescription drug disposal pamphlet from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.  I couldn’t find any information on any drug take-back programs in Arizona, if you know of any let us know and we’ll post it up.

The article below has a blurb saying that reverse Osmosis does remove most drugs, but also leaves 2 gallons of polluted water for every 1 gallon cleaned. That doesn’t sound like a good solution to me.

“One technology, reverse osmosis, removes virtually all pharmaceutical contaminants but is very expensive for large-scale use and leaves several gallons of polluted water for every one that is made drinkable.”
